Alton “Al” Hayostek (86) was born in 1934 in Flint, Michigan and passed peacefully at home on February 20, 2021. He grew up in Flint, Michigan and went through the Flint City Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army from 1958-1960. After his discharge from the Army, he went to work for General Motors, retiring in 1996 from Buick Motor Division with thirty- seven years of service. Aside from his years in the service, he had never lived outside of Flint, but when he retired, he and Sandy moved to Tennessee. Living in the South was a learning curve for him, but he soon adjusted and loved it.
“Al” loved to sing and sang in various school choirs, the VCY Choral and church choirs. He was an active member of Calvert Park Church of God before moving to Tennessee, then became an active member of Morton Memorial UMC.
He is preceded in death by his sister Victoria Worrell and his parents. He is survived by his wife of sixty- two years, Sondra (Sandy) Hayostek of Monteagle, Tennessee; three sons, Ronald (Lisa) Hayostek of Royal Oak, Michigan, Daniel (Cathy) Hayostek of Flint, Michigan and Gregory Hayostek, also of Flint, Michigan; one granddaughter, Claire (Drew) Hayostk- Holley of Atlanta, Georgia; sister Bert Fults of Fenton, Michigan; brother, David VenDeMark of Burton, Michigan and special friends, Julie, Jerrett and Randie Keel and several loving in- laws.
A memorial service will be held at Mountain T.O.P.- Altamont on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2PM. Visitation will be held at 1PM until time of service. (We are asking for the safety of all, to please wear a mask.)
Burial to be at a later date in Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain T.O.P. or Morton Memorial UMC.
